Opportunity for Lesson

Our dishwasher broke down last week. So now was a perfect opportunity for the kids to learn a chore that had to be done everyday & now twice a day. Ella has learned how to wash dishes: the right order (glasses, silverware, then plates/bowls & ending with pots/pans) and how to clean the items (getting around the rims and down inside of cups and front/back of plates/bowls etc.) Ella has done a great job. It takes her about 30 minutes to do what I can do in about 10 minutes. But that's OK. Because then Ezra, who's been rinsing this whole time, can keep up with her and have some time to play, and Emmeline can keep up with drying the dishes. Today, Sunday afternoon, I washed while Emmeline rinsed and Ella dried. That's because we had 3 meals & 2 snack time dishes piled up on us. I can wash fast, Emmeline can keep up with the rinsing, and Ella is a proficient dryer.

The other picture is of the kids all doing puzzles at the same time. Last week I moved the puzzles all out of the closets and onto a couple of bookshelves where they could be seen more easily. Since then the kids have done lots of puzzle making. Ella easily does 100 piece, Emmeline will try 100 piece ones but needs quite a bit of help. Ezra & Elise can do the 25-35 piece puzzles without too much trouble. Ezra actually did 1 100 piece horse puzzle the other day. I had to help sort out the pieces for him and tell him where some pieces went. He was sure proud when he finished that puzzle!

Grandma Dee wanted to see your blog while we were in Arizona, and this was such a fun entry to read with her. Your are right about this being an opportunity to learn for the kids.

The "puzzle piece" was also a delight. These little people sure do have their mommy's blood.

Cute pictures!
