We love books! This morning, Ella & Emmeline went with me to a small Homeschool used book sale in Watertown (just 10 minutes from our house). The girls got to take along $2 in quarters to buy some of their own books. Boy were they excited! They each came home with some books. Ella also got a puzzle - a 100 piece Thomas the Train puzzle. Emmeline found a stack of workbook type books in a free box. She'll make good use of them; not to fill out the lines, but to cut out different pictures and create her own creations. I spent about $15 and came home with a big stack of books. One book was Daily Grams, a book that has 180 lessons in that only take 10 minutes a day to complete and can be done orally. It was $7 (less than half of retail price) and was in good condition. Most of the books were a quarter a piece. I like it when I can find books for 25 cents! I even found a couple of books that were on my list to look for at used book sales.
Since it's been raining/dripping here for the last 3-4 days, the kids haven't got out much. Yesterday, Ella practiced her jump rope in the garage. Emmeline watched and helped keep count. Ella made it up to 8 jumps in a row.
This winter, the older 2 girls have worn out a couple of their comfy sweat pants and gotten holes in the knees. So Emmeline has taken the material and made her own dolly clothes out of them. Cut holes for the heads and add some pretty things with glue or tie them on by poking holes and then using twisty ties to tie it together (I'll post some pictures of some of her creations later). She's definitely creative - making her own french fries out of paper, own paper dolls, dolly clothes, old fashioned "straw" stuffed bed mattress & pillow, paper cakes, paper food for stuffed animals, paper dog collars & leashes, and paper dolly-sized book shelves.
